RIDE 4 GABE IV — SUMMIT DUCHENNE

About R4G:

Ride4Gabe is a semi-annual trans-America bike trek. This year we depart in Birmingham, Alabama and finish atop Pikes Peak, Colorado — at an elevation of 14,115 feet.

Across seven days and over 200 miles per day, R4G's three ultra-distance cyclists — Brian Toone, Michael Staley, and Demetrious White — will cross through eight states and 1,500-plus miles to reach the summit.

Prior R4G highlights include:

In 2017, R4G's Brian Toone was the first American to complete the non-stop Race Across America (RAAM) finishing 3rd overall with a time of 10d 2h 53m. Prior R4G campaign goals and accomplishments include nationwide canvassing for over 100,000 signatures via The White House "We the People" online portal, successful passage of the 2015 "Right to Try Act," plus formation of the state of Alabama's 2016 "Rare Disease Advisory Council."

Mission Statement:

Ride4Gabe's (R4G) mission is to raise awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

R4G IV Goals:

• Create awareness for "Summit Duchenne" to defeat Duchenne muscular dystrophy — known as the "Toughest Fight in the World."

• Raise funds to sustain the Hope for Gabe Foundation as a leader in the race for finding a cure for Gabe and others with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

• Sponsor and support Team R4G, our cyclists, and crew.

Now in our fourth year, R4G's endurance cyclists, crew, and staff have crossed thirty-three states and 5,550 miles.

Hope for Gabe Foundation:

The "Hope for Gabe Foundation"(H4G) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Birmingham, Alabama. H4G was formed in 2010 by the family of Gabe Griffin, a 14-year-old Birmingham boy who was diagnosed with the rare genetic disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

Team R4G:

Team R4G includes road support from Kate Staley, Jon Bourque, and Stephen Peters. They will follow our cyclist in a sport utility vehicle provided by our sponsor, Donohoo Chevrolet. Vehicle safety lights and sound system will be installed by Haynes Emergency Lighting.

Our crew includes drivers Lou Pfau and Tara Stallworth Lee following in a recreational vehicle (generously provided by a local family) giving shelter to our riders and crew each night. Live web and social media support is provided by Tod Ingram.
